ABSTRACT:
The primary objectives of the UV disinfection pilot tests were to assess the feasibility of the UV disinfection and establish the appropriate design parameters for a full-scale UV disinfection facility to achieve the required enterococci standards at Sand Island. The enterococci standards are 18,000 per 100 mL, based on a daily maximum. The results of the pilot tests were used to design the full-scale UV disinfection facility.
Specific Objectives Included:
Phase 1- Developing UV dose-response relationship for UV disinfection under various influent conditions and to verify the pilot system can achieve the necessary target dose and disinfection level.
Phase 2- Assessing the UV lamp fouling rates, required frequency of cleaning and cleaning wiper efficiency.
